I’ve been in love with Burt’s Bees classic beeswax lip balm for years and years. One time, I ordered a shipment of four lip balm tubes from Amazon. Instead of a pack of four, they sent me roughly 15 packs of four. That’s about 60 tubes of Burt’s Bees lip balm, and they let me keep them all. Do you know how long it took me to use up all 60 tubes? Less than a year.
That’s how much I love the stuff. Of course, I did share my wealth with family and friends, so I probably used about 40 tubes myself. That’s still a lot — but Burt’s Bees is a quality company that makes products with natural ingredients. The lip balm has beeswax, coconut oil, sunflower seed oil, and other lovely natural lip-soothers, and it rocks.
While Burt’s Bees doesn’t make a lip balm for dogs — dogs don’t really have the anatomy for it, after all — they do make a whole host of fantastic products for their canine friends.
So of course I had to try some out for Eira so that she can enjoy the comfort and luxury that is Burt’s Bees.
And the products did not disappoint!
We’ll take you through our very favorites. There’s something for every dog (and every wallet).

Burt’s Bees for Dogs Hemp Bristle Brush
Eira, as an Alaskan shepherd (a mix of the German shepherd and the Alaskan malamute) has quite the coat of fur, especially in winter. Even though she spends most of her time inside when it’s freezing out, we go out on walks enough that her body responds by growing a hearty coat. Which then, of course, vigorously sheds itself anytime the weather warms up just a little.
So when we got Eira, we purchased a de-shedding brush with round-tipped metal bristles that work really well at extracting loose hair from a dog’s coat. But we hardly use it, because Eira hates it. She runs when she sees the brush! It’s awful, and we’ve been wanting to get her something that doesn’t drive her crazy. Even when we very gently brushed her coat with that brush, she twisted and writhed and tried to get away.
So when I saw that Burt’s Bees has a Hemp Bristle Brush designed for dogs, I knew I had to buy it for Eira.
Eira waits to test her Burt’s Bees Hemp Bristle Brush for the first time.
It’s not a de-shedding brush, so before I tried it I wasn’t sure if it would remove fur that would otherwise end up all over our house. I mean, we expect a level of fur in the house as any dog-owner has to. But I was pleasantly surprised with how much fur the brush removed. Is it as much as the de-shedding brush? No. But it does remove hair.
More importantly…Eira loved it.
I mean, just look at her in this picture. The video below it shows her reaction in real time.
Eira pretty much melted as soon as I started brushing her. The hemp bristles must feel amazing — so much better than metal bristles, even if they are round-tipped.
I’m so glad I bought this brush for her, and in addition to being comfortable for Eira, it’s super comfy for me too. The fabric handle isn’t too tight around my fingers, and the wood is shaped in a way that makes for easy gripping. It’s solid wood, too. Here’s how much hair it got off Eira:
Keep in mind that this is Eira’s summer coat, not her winter coat, which would result in a lot more hair coming off the brush. Note the nice, firm hemp bristles that, while firm, are also gentle on a dog’s skin and coat.
The brush is, as the company writes on the packaging, intended for smoothing a dog’s top coat, helping reduce shedding, and stimulating the dog’s oil glands and distribute them all over the coat for a glossy shine. And the Hemp Bristle Brush does all this and more: it’s pretty much a bonus dog massager. If you want to get at a dog’s undercoat, you can probably still use this brush by brushing at an angle, snagging extra dog hairs. But honestly? I just want Eira to enjoy her grooming experience. I might just use the brush as intended and leave it at that.
I can deal with the extra dog hair if it means grooming becomes a melt-fest with my sweet Eira.
Eira lovingly sniffs her Burt’s Bees Hemp Bristle Brush.
If your dog hates getting brushed as much as Eira does, try the Burt’s Bees Hemp Bristle Brush for Dogs. It’s no more expensive than any other brush, but it feels like a personal massager for your dog.

Burt’s Bees Multipurpose Dog Grooming Wipes
While we’re on the topic of grooming, let’s talk about Burt’s Bees Multipurpose Dog Grooming Wipes. The great thing about these wipes is that they are 100% safe for puppies: the formula is pH-balanced for dogs and puppies and is free of fragrances, harsh chemicals, sulfates, and colorants. Seeing how puppies are experts at getting dirty the moment you’re done bathing them, this is a big plus. Instead of having to get your puppy wet all over again, you can simply wipe her head or paws with a Burt’s Bees dog grooming wipe. Just make sure you don’t get it in her eyes!
Even though the wipes are unscented, they are fantastic at getting icky smells of your dog. So if your dog steps in something sticky and random while out walking, make sure you have your wipes handy! The wipes contain honey for its soothing and cleaning properties, as well as its natural amino acids and vitamins and minerals that help nourish your dog’s coat.

Burt’s Bees All Natural Waterless Shampoo Spray
If you need something a little stronger than a wipe but that isn’t a full-on bath (especially if your dog hates water and you try to keep her out of it as much as possible), try this Burt’s Bees Waterless Shampoo Spray. It contains honey, beeswax (of course!), and apple extract, along with other nourishing ingredients. Like the wipes, it’s free of parabens, sulfates, colorants, and harsh chemicals, so if your dog has sensitive skin, rejoice!
You can wash your dog from face to toe with this stuff. Just make sure not to spray your dog directly on her face; instead, spray the shampoo onto a towel and then gently rub it into your dog’s face fur, carefully avoiding her eyes.
There’s no need to rinse this shampoo. Just enjoy the fresh, clean, non-soaked dog you get when you’re done!

Burt’s Bees Paw and Nose Lotion
You know that hot spot Eira had a couple weeks ago? It’s healing, thanks to the hot spot spray we’ve been putting on it, but the skin there is a little dry. I wanted to get something to go on her healing hot spot that could help repair the skin faster. So I decided to try Burt’s Bees Paw and Nose Lotion for Dogs. It’s extremely reasonably priced and the bottle is bigger than I expected — two bonuses!
Hmm, does Eira want to eat the paw and nose lotion?
This lotion is thin and creamy, not too greasy. It’s got honey, beeswax, bilberry extract, jojoba butter, and rosemary and olive oils for maximum hydration and nourishment. The smell is subtle, but sweet, and it’s easy to rub it into your dog’s skin.
See the little smear of lotion in my palm? That’s all you need to hydrate your dog’s nose, paws, and even a healing hot spot or two!
It’s meant for nose and paws, so I applied some to Eira’s nose and paws and then focused on her hot spot.
Eira, curious about the Burt’s Bees for Dogs Paw and Nose lotion I’m applying to her healed but dry hot spot.
In just a few hours, the hot spot looked remarkably more moisturized. I was worried that Eira would try to lick the lotion off, but after giving it a good sniff, she left it alone.
You can use this lotion every day, especially if you live in a hot, dry state. It can even be used over flea and tick medication and won’t cause it to be ineffective.
And it’s cheaper than one tube of Burt’s Bees human lip balm.

Burt’s Bees for Dogs Eye Wash
When my German shepherd, Bella, was about three years old, she was playing with a group of kids at a campground in California. One of the kids picked up a stick and threw it for her, except she threw it right at Bella’s face. Bella howled in pain, scaring the kids and breaking my heart, and I rushed to her. She pawed and pawed at her eye, where the stick had hit. I immediately took her back to camp for some first aid.
Except all I had was water to rinse her eye out with. The eye was red and irritated, but didn’t appear wounded. Bella recovered after a day or two and I was extra careful about letting young kids throw sticks for her after that.
But I wish I had had Burt’s Bees Eye Wash for Dogs to help flush out any particles of dirt or wood from her eye. The eye wash is made from saline solution to act as naturally as your own dog’s tears would in a case where flushing is needed. There’s no honey or beeswax in this stuff, because the less ingredients you put in your dog’s eyes, the better. But like all Burt’s Bees products, it’s free of sulfates, parabens, harsh chemicals, and colorants, so your dog’s eyes are in good hands.
It might be tricky to get the drops in your dog’s eye, but you can try speaking in a calm, low voice and letting them know what you’re going to do: help them feel better again by putting two or three drops of saline solution in their eyeball.
After a few blinks, your pup should feel better. Use the solution a few times a day until the irritation goes away.

Burt’s Bees for Dogs 2-in-1 Tearless Shampoo and Conditioner
This dog shampoo is a lifesaver for dogs who don’t love baths or who have a hard time holding still for a bath. Instead of applying two solutions — a shampoo and then a coat-nourishing conditioner — just use the Burt’s Bees 2-in-1 Tearless Shampoo and Conditioner. The fact that it’s tearless is a huge plus for wiggly puppies. If it happens to get in their eyes, it won’t make them burn.
The 2-in-1 formula is made with linseed oil and buttermilk for extra nourishment and shine.

Burt’s Bees Detangling Spray and Double-Sided Comb
Does your dog have longer fur that tends to get tangled really easily? Try the Burt’s Bees detangling spray, along with the double-sided comb. The spray contains linseed oil for shine and lemon oil to reduce oil and grease buildup that causes tangles. If your dog has a really gnarled tangle spot, saturate the area with the spray, wait a few minutes, and then tease the hair apart with the double-sided comb.

The double-sided comb is made from the same sturdy wood as the Burt’s Bees Hemp Bristle Brush, but it features plastic bristles. One side is super thin, close-together bristles that are designed to remove fleas and flea eggs from your dog’s fur. The other side is intended for tangles. Both sides of the comb do an excellent job fulfilling their duty of keeping your dog’s fur clean and smooth.

Burt’s Bees Dog Bandana
Unlike the previous products, this next Burt’s Bees gem is purely frivolous but utterly adorable: a dog bandana! Burt’s Bees makes quality clothes and burp cloths for babies, which I used when my son was a newborn. That same fabric is applied to its dog bandanas, too: the cotton is 100% organic, earth and farmer friendly, and super soft to boot.
The Burt’s Bees bandana that’s for sale right now is Halloween-themed with black, orange, and white stripes. Get it so that your pup can go trick-or-treating in comfort and style in just a couple months! And guess what: if you have a baby, you can get him a matching outfit. Your pup and baby will be the delight of every person who opens the door to your trick-or-treat knock.
