There’s nothing more fun than browsing the local pet store for the newest and brightest in dog toys. The other day, I stumbled upon probably the cutest dog toy I’ve ever seen. It was so cute, in fact, that the store’s employees commented on how adorable it was as I was checking out. “It must be from the new line of Petstages toys,” they said. “I need to get one for my dog!”
I couldn’t wait to bring the toy home to Eira, who always seems to sense when I’ve brought her back something from town. So what was this magical toy, you ask?

Eira Meets the Petstages Carrot Stuffer Toy
A rubber treat carrot from Petstages, complete with a green carrot stem and three holes of varying sizes…to put carrots in. Many dogs love carrots, which contain potassium, Vitamin A, and fiber — all essential to your dog’s health and happiness. Plus, you can give your dog a carrot without worrying about feeding him less kibble later on, unlike with higher-calorie regular treats.
And have you ever purchased a treat that cost less than a bunch of carrots?
When my German shepherd, Clancy, had her one and only litter of puppies (including my dog, Bella) we used to give them each a whole carrot a day. They would run around the yard chomping and tossing and rolling in the snow with their carrots before chewing them to shreds.
So when I saw the rubber carrot at the store, I thought fondly of my German shepherds. Eira likes carrots, too, but I decided to put treats in her rubber carrot instead of, well, carrots.
The carrot turned out to be a wonderful toy for Eira — and for my toddler to play with Eira.
My toddler actually found the toy before Eira did, and he immediately wanted to put something in the holes. I handed him a few doggy biscuits to insert.
My toddler puts dog biscuits into the Petstages rubber carrot. Is it not the most adorable rubber dog toy you’ve ever seen?
Then, we gave Eira her carrot stuffed with biscuits. She took to it right away, as you can see in the video below. Of course my toddler wanted to keep throwing it for her, but all Eira wanted was to get those treats out!
She got them out, all right. Piece by piece. Crumb by crumb. And she kept working on the carrot with her tongue, trying to get out every last bit of the treat.

She did give up after a little while, which gave my toddler a chance to swoop in and throw the carrot for her. Dog and boy then played for a good half an hour! Something else I love about this Petstages toy is that the green carrot top makes it so easy for small hands to grab the toy out of a dog’s mouth (with careful supervision, of course) and throw it. The carrot bounces around delightfully, which my son and Eira both loved. She got to bounce around with it, trying to catch the carrot, and he got to watch and laugh.
My toddler gets ready to throw the carrot stuffer. Note how perfect it is for little hands, yet also how it’s big enough to provide a bigger dog like Eira with a satisfying chew.
So yes, you could say I’m currently in love with a rubber carrot. It’s solidly built — even the carrot top’s material isn’t easy to destroy. The rubber is high-quality, textured rubber that helps clean and soothe a dog’s gums and teeth. If you have a teething puppy, stick some frozen carrot sticks inside the holes and watch your pup be soothed and entertained at the same time!
And be sure to snap lots of photos of your dog with her carrot stuffer toy. Because it really is one of the most adorable dog toys I’ve ever seen.

Now that we’ve fallen in love with the Petstages carrot, we’ve done lots of sniffing around on the web for additional Petstages toys to play with. Here are some of our favorites!
Petstages Ruffwood Wooden Dog Chew Toy
My dog, Bella, loved to chew sticks. She loved chewing sticks more than chewing rawhides or real bones or anything else. She loved sticks so much that I actually let her bring them into the house sometimes, willing to clean up the shredded mess afterward because chewing sticks made her so happy.
But one day, while Bella was chewing a stick inside, she started to choke. She seemed unable to move her jaw, and that’s when I realized the stick was jammed toward the back of her mouth and was propping her jaws open! While you’re not technically supposed to dig around in a dog’s mouth if you suspect they are choking on something — although you are supposed to check the mouth and pull the tongue forward before attempting the canine heimlich — that’s what I did. With one swipe, I hooked my finger around the stick, jiggled it loose, and pulled it (along with lots of lovely slobber) out of my dog’s mouth.
The stick incident scared me, and I resolved to find a safer alternative. Usually Bella didn’t swallow sticks, she spit them out — hence the shredded pile of wood fibers that would amass at her side during a stick-chewing session. That’s when I stumbled across the strange concept of a synthetic stick toy.
There are tons of choices out there — Nylabone makes toys with real wood in them that are safer than sticks, but Petstages’ Ruffwood Wooden Dog Chew Toy stands out to me because not only does it contain wood, it also smells like a stick. You know that earthy, grainy scent that’s released when your dog gnaws a real stick to pieces?
It smells like that. And dogs love it! Plus, the Petstages real stick + synthetic stick chew toy is offered at an unbeatable price on Amazon. It doesn’t leave little shredded piles of anything anywhere, even if your dog is a strong chewer. The texture is truly wood-like. It lasts a long, long time and is so worth your money.
There are three different sizes of this stick toy, so make sure you get the correct size for your dog’s weight to keep the chewing as safe as possible!
Plus, you can toss this stick into a lake or pond for your pup, just like a real stick. It floats!

Petstages ORKA Tire Dog Toy
There’s nothing better than a toy that rolls, bounces, stands up to chewing, floats in the water, and holds tasty treats. Haven’t heard of a toy like this? Meet the Petstages ORKA Tire Dog Toy. Petstages scored big when they dreamed up this toy, because dogs everywhere love it. It’s shaped like a bright blue tire, and you simply tuck the treats or kibble into the fold of the tire (which is just like on a real tire, only tighter to make it more challenging for your dog to extract the treat).
Roll the tire along your carpet or hardwood floor for indoor fun in the winter, or toss it into a summer lake. Or just tuck some pieces of cooked chicken or beef inside and let your dog endlessly chew on the ORKA to get the goodies out. Eira loves her carrot, but she’s put the ORKA on her birthday list, and you better believe she’ll be getting one!
Plus, like all Petstages toys, it’s super affordable on Amazon.

Petstages Stuffing Free Floppy Shark Toy
There’s nothing worse than giving your dog a fun stuffed animal toy for some outdoor play, turning away to check your phone, and looking back to see a flayed-open bear or monkey or whatever, and stuffing scattered like snow all over your lawn. (This has happened to Eira and me, obviously.) Even if your dog rips open a stuffed toy indoors, you still have to sweep it up and throw it away. Not great for the environment, or your sanity.
Thankfully, Petstages makes a fantastic, durable stuffing-free toy: the Stuffing Free Floppy Shark Toy. It’s made of material that crackles and crunches, and it’s got three squeakers hidden inside. It’s perfect for small dogs who don’t care for rubber chew toys and just want a fun, floppy, fish-like toy to fling around.
And it’s great for you because there won’t be any huge stuffing messes to pick up!

Petstages Newhide Rawhide Replacement Bone
Made from the scraps left over from slaughterhouses, rawhide bones are highly processed treats that can cause problems for some dogs. Dogs who can chew really well — pretty much any larger dog — can bite of a chunk of rawhide, which swells with moisture and can get lodged in your dog’s throat or intestines. You could keep a hawk’s eye on your dog while he’s chewing rawhide…or you could get the Petstages Newhide Rawhide Replacement Bone.
Made with real rawhide but without the propensity for swelling that rawhide has, this tough bone is a safer alternative that your dog will adore.

Petstages Crunchcore Bone Toy
If your dog loves to dig plastic water bottles out of the recycling and crunch them to high heaven (until you intervene, because those sharp plastic shards can cut her gums!), then this is the toy you need. It’s a clear plastic bone that crunches and crackles just like an empty plastic water bottle. Unlike a water bottle, though, the bone won’t come apart in shards that stab your dog’s gums.
This toy comes in sizes to fit any dog, but it’s especially great for puppies who can’t get enough of, well, everything. Eira was that way as a pup, and I wish I’d known about the Petstages Crunchcore Bone Toy back then.
She would’ve adored it.
